The Association of Arab cable manufacturers (a sub-sector of AFEI) held its first conference "ArabCab 2005" under the patronage of HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Salman Al-Khalifa, Minister of electricity and water in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The conference discussed ways to develop cable manufacturers in the Arab world, land and sea freight facilities between the Arab countries, exchange of expertise amongst the Arab companies, combating the dumping policy by foreign companies in the Arab markets, adopting unified standards for cables, establishing Arab labs that would issue the conformity assessment certificates for the Arab products, and coordinating manufacturing capacities in the Arab region on the basis of integration rather than competition and dumping.
Members of the Association agreed to hold their 2nd conference in Morocco on April 2006.
